Rice is nice

Rice is nice
Rice, glorious rice.

Who doesn't love rice? It's a staple food for over half of our world's population. Over 750 million tonnes produced annually, with India and China producing over 50% of this rice. Rice was domesticated in Asia over 10,000 years ago.

There are so many wonderful dishes from around the world that feature rice - think Paella, Biryani, Sushi, Dolmades, Pilaf, Risotto, Fried rice, Poke Bowls, Sticky rice dumplings - to name a few. There is a whole host of yummy rice based desserts.

And then there is your good ole basic steamed white rice. Great to serve alongside curries, stews and stir-fries.

The rice pictured above was purchased from Sovereign Foods. Sovereign Foods sources from Australian producers and with transparency - that is, they can tell you who grew your food, when it was harvested and how it was grown.

Sovereign sources this rice from Burrum Biodynamics, who produce lentils, pulses and grains in North West Victoria. Burrum Biodynamics has a Demeter Biodynamic certification which requires the producer views the farm as a living holistic organism and supports biodiversity and ecosystem preservation, soil husbandry, livestock integration, and no GMOs.

With this post we've add our simple recipe for Steamed rice, to accompany Geeta's curry. This rice recipe is as simple as our Curry recipe was complicated - so they balance each other out! And compliment each other beautifully.

If you'd like to know how to safely cook and store rice? ✅ Our home food safety workshop is coming up on Sat May 10 at 10am. Check out this and our other Autumn/Winter workshops 🍁❄️.
