About Alma Plate

The name 'Alma' comes from the Latin route 'almus' - meaning 'nourishing'. Alma Plate aims to grow our community's access to nourishing food. We support food systems that nourish people as well as the planet.
Allison created the vision for Alma Plate in 2007. From 2012-2016 Alma Plate ran as a weekly food market out of Allison's garage. Over the next 7 years Allison focused on building teaching skills, and relaunched Alma Plate in 2025 to offer food skills education.
Alma Plate's food philosophy is simple. Get as close to a food’s source as possible - know who and where it comes from, and how it is produced. Then, do as little as possible to the produce in the kitchen to turn it into delicious meals to feed family, friends and community.
Putting this philosophy into action is not simple! Alma Plate endeavours to navigate our complex web and help others on their food journey. Together we can continue to sustain food systems that sustain us.
